THE HISTORY
The inspiration and the idea for this brand new musical venture is a show which has been spurred on by the recognition of the diverse cultural differences that have served to create the present day island of Ireland, America and Canada.
The history of the Irish Scots follows their own persecution and famine in the lowlands of Scotland, the inability to practice their religion of Presbyterianism because of the laws of the English Crown and finally their opportunity to resettle and renew their beliefs and future in Ireland, primarily in the Plantation of Ulster.
In Ireland these new settlers were looked upon as enemies by the Irish, even though they endured the same harsh laws and restrictions imposed by the English where, Roman Catholicism was frowned upon and banned.
As time moved on the Ulster/Irish Scots as they became known, decided in great numbers to make their way to the new lands of America where they could live, prosper and worship in peace. They and their native Irish countrymen left from the ports of Newry, Derry/Londonerry, Larne, Belfast and Donaghadee to journey to America where they fought and died for their freedoms in the American Civil War and the War of Independence.
It is a great testament that all these folks Catholic and Protestant, prospered and became the backbone of the new American nation and it is with great pride that we, can trace so many American Presidents, generals and business leaders to the Irish Scots and native Irish who hailed originally from the Province of Ulster in the 1700's.
IT IS FROM THIS GREAT HISTORY THAT THE CONCEPT OF THE PLANTER AND THE GAEL WAS BORN
